format sata drive

hi im building a new computer. I ordered a brand new Western Digital Caviar 80gb SATA3.0 drive. My motherboard is an MSI K8N Neo4. XP disk is genuine MS windows home edition SP1 CD.Okay anyway I'm trying to install windows. I get to the part where I have to format the drive. I select the unpartitioned space using the non-quick NTFS format mode and let it format. Takes around 45 minutes. But problem arises after 100%. It says something like "Error formatting the hard drive.. drive may be damaged ... etc"Please don't tell me this brand new hard drive is damaged!! The bios correctly identifys the hard drive and the size of it. Do I have to install SATA drivers or something? Sorry I'm new to the whole SATA thing, I have only installed one other SATA hard drive in my other computer but I didn't have to install drivers for that one.
